Had some KILLER points during acupuncture yesterday. The one that hurt the most was in my ear, a point that "settles the mind". I felt WONDERFUL for a couple of hours afterward.
Feeling good today... went for a walk with Luca. As it gets warmer, our neighborhood is really showing its personality. It's so much better being happy all the time. It makes me sad, because I barely remember the last 6 months, I was in such a fog. I feel like I have missed out on Luca's babyhood, since I wasn't fully there, mentally. It feels nice to hear him cry and not have to fend off a panic attack. It feels nice to wake up, still very tired, but not so exhausted that I have to will my limbs to move at all. It feels nice to see my husband do one of those little-annoying-things and just smile to myself, rather than silently fume and obsess.
Luca only woke up 3 times last night, which is lucky because Ash woke up with a sore throat, and I can let him sleep in.
I took Luca to The Regulator to look at some books, yesterday. A new big color picture book called "Tiny Homes: Simple Shelter" was there, and I got SO inspired looking through it that I sat down (giving Luca a toy) and sketched down some great ideas. To build without proving structural integrity your building has to be 12'X12' or smaller, and I was struggling imagining living in a place that small. But this book showed how it could be done (tip no. 1: outdoor kitchen! tip no. 2: bath house!).
Nutritionist said my diet doesn't have enough variety, carbohydrates, or FLAVOR! I guess I would eat more if my food actually tasted good, eh? I'm looking up some recipes right now, for tomato-less barbecue sauce and marinara sauce. A good meat sauce over some quinoa pasta sounds DELICIOUS.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is coming to UNC and I can't go because I have a baby :( Eh. Fair trade. ;)
Edit: HE IS CRAWLING BACKWARD!! I swear he learned it from Leo the other day, because he was doing nothing resembling crawling until after their play date.
I just realized that my DMER is gone. Breastfeeding only feels warm, fuzzy, happy, etc now. Oh it's so wonderful!!
Tonights tasty dinner adventure: white fish on corn tortillas with fruit salsa (mango, pineapple, cilantro, onions, salt, pepper), rice cheese (thought I'd give it a try...), and lettuce.

Getting close now...
I will be 35 weeks this Wednesday. HOLY COW. I weigh 155, pretty much the same as my husband now.

The beach last week was lovely. We stayed in an area of the Outer Banks with a private beach (Southern Shores) so everything was clean, uncrowded, and quiet. Live and learn though- that island is almost completely void of heathy food. Their "gourmet" markets are pathetic! Just a couple choices of overpriced brand name "natural" stuff that isn't even organic. There was exactly ONE place to get fresh whole grain bread, but it was $5 per loaf. I had to get some sad looking organic produce from Harris Teeter. Lame. I'm so glad we brought nice beef/sausage/chicken from Whole Foods from home! And I also baked a loaf of my own bread to bring, and brought local honey/peanut butter. SO I didn't starve, but I did eat a whole lot more junk food than I wanted to, which only upset me because I'm trying to give Lucca 100% the best of everything, I don't really care about indulging on vacation for myself. I tried to eat ice cream out one night... it gave me a MASSIVE headache almost instantly! So I guess I have properly detoxed myself from my former sugar addiction.
I did a lot of napping, a lot of walking, and a lot of sunbathing (no burning!!) so Lucca did a lot of growing. My liver pain came back. :( Still working on that one.. but at this point, his little butt and feet are always all up on it, so I'm not sure how it can stop hurting completely.

I have been craving sun gold tomatoes all year, and they finally came in our garden!!

I can't wait to take Lucca to the Eno Festival next year! So much to explore.

24.5 weeks
Picture from 23 weeks:

Weighing in at 140 now... I guess that means I can stop worrying about gaining weight! Only 3 weeks left of my second trimester. I was doing really well drinking my pregnancy tea but I stopped the last couple days... I have paid for it with severe stabbing pains after eating, especially in the evenings corresponding with stabbing middle back pain. OH THE AGONY when you're driving home all alone and your spine feels like it is snapping and you just want to pull over and lay on the grass for an hour.
In our Hypnobabies class we are learning about nutrition and it has made me pay attention a lot more. Even someone like me, who spends a great deal of time thinking about food and eating well, STILL has a lot of improvements to make during a pregnancy. For example, I am no longer having a "just this once" attitude about junk food, now that I know what it does to baby (I can count the indulgences on one hand but that is still too much). I am concentrating on protein intake a lot more (I only had 45 grams the day before yesterday, got it up to 90 grams yesterday). Turns out you can't take iron and calcium together because they block the absorption of each other (I KNEW multivitamins were stupid), and you can't get calcium from Tums because you need stomach acid to absorb it properly. I was happy to learn that the exercising I have been doing is good (pelvic tilts, inner thigh stretching, squats, and kegels). I have been drinking more water ever since I learned that my body cycles through all of the amnionic fluid every 3 hours!!!
The bigger he gets and the more he kicks, the more excited I am that he is eventually coming out of there!! Those sweet, baby kicks are worth all the back pain (though I have to say, pregnancy is overall annoying and a lot of hard work and I am glad I am doing it now while my body is super young and I can handle it better).
I tried to make cheese but I didn't think it was very tasty. I think that's because my favorite cheeses are all EXTREMELY salty, hard, sharp, and smokey while this cheese was more mild. My family loved it and inhaled the whole bowl, and it was fun to make (I can imagine kids getting a kick out of watching milk turn into cheese).
You take two quarts of whole milk and heat it in a double boiler until it gets frothy but NOT boiling:

You stir in half a cup of lemon juice:

You strain out the whey for an hour:

Then you add salt and herbs to taste and let it sit for a few hours before eating:

THE PIZZA STONE CRACKED!!!

I think I am storing my bread dough incorrectly, because whenever I bake the bread from the leftover dough, it is always tiny, dense, and not as tasty. I am just storing it in the fridge in a plastic bowl, with a cloth tied over the top. Maybe I should try wrapping the dough ball in plastic wrap? Or in a plastic container with a plastic lid (not wanting to go the disposable route).
A lot has been going on with the homestead this week, I will be writing a blog post over on my other blog soon. MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN WORKING SO HARD!!!
